Screen Resolution Template and Guidelines

Use the following link as a template in regards to screen resolution. After opening the link and sizing your browser appropriately, view your own site in the newly framed aspect ratio. The statistics mentioned are general and from 2009 and only important to define our design strategy.

The #1 Screen Resolution of Yesteryear was is 800x600. Approximately 90% of internet users have access to higher resolutions, but we like to error on the side of accessibility, you have only screen space to give them. It is often appropriate to think about 800x600 for page elements on larger layouts. Also note that some people may have access to higher resolution screens but use 800 x 600 at other locations.

1024x768, more than 36% worldwide web users use this resolution and the number is growing. If there is a need for space, because of content, functionality or design needs, use 1024x768. But take the 800x600 view into account when doing layout of page elements.

>1024x768, more than 50% of Web users use screen resolutions greater than 1024x768. In terms of Web accessibility, don't even bother to think of a reason to go here... Yet.

The Apple iPhone has a resolution of 480x320 or 320x480. We all love the iPhone right?

The Sony PSP has a resolution of 480x272. Why mention the Sony PSP? There are 56 million PSP units sold as of 2009. And there is only more handheld devices to come.
